Бұл зерттеуде Шанхай ынтымақтастық ұйымы 2015–2025 жылдар аралығындағы ұйымның ресми дискурсын талдау негізінде Орталық Азиядағы өңірлік интеграция тетігі ретінде қарастырылады. Зерттеу өңірлік интеграцияның ШЫҰ-ның ресми дискурсында қалай тұжырымдалып, басымдыққа ие болатынын, сондай-ақ уақыт өте келе өңірлік ынтымақтастықтың әртүрлі бағыттарының салыстырмалы маңыздылығы қалай өзгергенін зерделеу арқылы ғылыми әдебиеттегі маңызды олқылықтың орнын толтыруға бағытталған. Зерттеуде сапалық контент-талдау мен сандық жиілік талдауын ұштастыратын аралас әдіснамалық тәсіл қолданылды. Эмпирикалық база декларацияларды, мәлімдемелерді және бірлескен коммюникелерді қамтитын ШЫҰ-ның 41 ресми құжатынан құралды. Кодтау сызбасы алты аналитикалық санатты қамтыды: интеграция, экономикалық ынтымақтастық, саяси үйлестіру, энергетика және көлік, гуманитарлық ынтымақтастық және қауіпсіздік. Зерттеу нәтижелері ШЫҰ-ның терең өңірлік интеграцияның дәстүрлі үлгісінен гөрі гибридті институционалдық платформа ретінде қызмет ететінін көрсетеді. Ұйым дискурсының 26,8 %-ы экономикалық ынтымақтастыққа, ал 20,3 %-ы қауіпсіздік мәселелеріне тиесілі, бұл аталған бағыттардың оның қызметінің негізгі өзегін құрайтынын көрсетеді. Ұзақ мерзімді талдау 2015–2019 жылдардағы қауіпсіздікке басымдық берілген күн тәртібінен 2020–2025 жылдары экономикалық бағыттағы және неғұрлым әртараптандырылған күн тәртібіне елеулі бетбұрыс болғанын анықтады. Сонымен қатар интеграция әлі де орныққан институционалдық тетіктерден гөрі көпполярлылық және «Шанхай рухы» секілді идеялар арқылы көрініс табатын дискурстық талқылау нысаны болып қалып отыр. Бұл зерттеу ШЫҰ құжаттарына жүйелі ұзақ мерзімді талдау жүргізу және дискурстық сипаттамаларды ынтымақтастықтың өлшенетін үлгілерімен байланыстыру арқылы қолданыстағы ғылыми әдебиетті толықтырады. Алынған нәтижелер көпполярлы әлем жағдайында икемді әрі консенсусқа негізделген регионализмнің маңызын айқындайды және ШЫҰ-ны таңдамалы ынтымақтастық пен институционалдық бейімделуге негізделген өңірлік өзара іс-қимылдың баламалы үлгісі ретінде қарастыруға мүмкіндік береді.
