Author Guidelines

 

We cordially invite you to contribute your research to the Journal of Central Asian Studies and become part of our scholarly community. Together, we can foster a deeper understanding of Central Asia’s complex socio-political landscape and its global significance.

All submissions will be reviewed by the editorial team to assess if they align with the aims and scope of the journal. Your manuscript will be considered based on the following criteria: appropriateness of topic, justification and significance, purpose and aim, depth of understanding, critical evaluation, coherent discussion of ideas, methods of data collection and analysis, ethical considerations, presentation of findings and logical inference, relationship between concepts and practice, relationship to previous research, overall claims and argument, potential impact, and coherence, cohesion and language. Submissions that meet requirements will undergo peer review to determine acceptance, acceptance with minor revision, acceptance with major revision or rejection.

Authors must ensure they have obtained permission to publish any materials such as photos, documents, and datasets, included with their submission. All authors listed on the submission must consent to being identified as an author. If applicable, research should be approved by an appropriate ethics committee in accordance with the legal requirements of the study’s country.

The following submission procedure applies in this journal:

  • Manuscripts for the Journal of Central Asian Studies should be submitted using the Open Journal System, an online submission and peer review system. To submit a manuscript, please register and access the "submit your article" The corresponding author is required to provide a cover letter along with the manuscript.
  • Information about the authors should be included on a separate page, providing postal addresses, telephone numbers, and email addresses, as well as the designated corresponding author
  • Manuscripts should be either original research articles or review articles in English. The originality of the manuscript text must be at least 75%. The editorial team checks the text’s uniqueness using special plagiarism programs. The manuscript should not have been published previously, nor should it be under consideration for review or publication by another journal. It is not allowed to use methods to bypass plagiarism detection such as using formula words or replacing letters with characters. If such violations are identified, the manuscript will be rejected immediately. Original research articles should not exceed 12,000 words, including references, and should present a comprehensive analysis or empirical study relevant to the scope of the journal. Review articles should critically examine existing literature from a fresh perspective and should be between 5,000 and 12,000 words, including references.

Please ensure that the manuscript meets the following requirements:

  • Provide the names of authors, their academic titles and degrees, places of work, and countries. Co-authorship is limited to a maximum of 4 people. Complete information (full name, affiliation, email and ORCID ID) must be provided for each author.
  • The article title should accurately reflect the content and topic of the research.
  • The Abstract should be a concise summary of the scientific article, outlining its purpose, type, form, and key features. It should describe the research methods used, summarize the most important findings, and their significance. The abstract should be 100-200 words long and provided with Kazakh and Russian translations.
  • Keywords, consisting of 3 to 10 words, should be provided along with their Kazakh and Russian translations. These keywords will help in locating the article during internet searches and identifying its subject area.
  • The Introduction should provide a brief overview of the issue's history, including consideration of relevant domestic and foreign works from the past decades, and clearly state the research purpose.
  • The Literature Review should critically evaluate relevant literature.
  • The Research Methods section should detail the data collection and data analysis methods, including descriptions of any new methods used.
  • Findings should report on the relevant discoveries.
  • The Discussion section should compare the research with the best domestic and global analogues, describe discussion points, and present your vision for resolving them.
  • The Conclusion should restate the research problem, summarize the work's results, main arguments or findings, and provide recommendations for applying the results.
  • Information about Research Funding Sources, such as departments, foundations, or individuals, should be placed before the references. The full names of funding organizations must be included.
  • Please ensure that in-text citations and references adhere to the APA 7th edition format.
  • The percentage of self-citations in the manuscript should not exceed 30% of the total number of references. Failure to meet these requirements will result in the manuscript being rejected by the editors and returned for revision.
  • All references in languages other than English should be submitted in accepted English transliteration. This can be done by using the program listed on the website http://translit.ru/ or https://transliteration.pro/bsi. Please remember to use the BSI (British Standards Institution) standard for transliterating Russian letters into Latin when creating a bibliographic description for a scientific publication. Correct transliteration is important for ensuring inclusion in foreign analytical databases.

Formatting requirements

  • The Manuscript title should be in capital bold letters and centered. 
  • The Full name of the author(s) should be in bold letters and left aligned with no abbreviations.
  • Author’s information including position, academic title, academic degree, name of institution, and city should be left aligned with no abbreviations. If there are multiple authors, please indicate the corresponding author.

Text files should be submitted in Word format (versions 6.0 and later) or rtf.

  • Font: Times New Roman, size: 14pt
  • Line spacing:0 spacing, one column
  • Fields: all sides should be 2 cm.

For Tables:

  • Tables should be numbered in Arabic numerals and have a descriptive title.
  • Numerical measurements (units) must be included in the column heading.

For Figures:

  • Figures (graphs, drawings, etc.) should be in black and white or high-quality color.
  • Figures should have short titles that accurately describe the depiction in the figures. 
  • Illustrations should not contain the titles of figures. 
  • Regardless of the graphicstype, figures must be of high resolution, not lower than 600 dpi.
  • The maximum size of figures is 120 × 210 mm.
  • Please do not use scanned graphic materials or images taken from the Internet. Please make sure permission has been obtained to publish all photos, datasets and other material provided with submission.
  • Tables, figures, formulas should not contain discrepancies in the designation of symbols, signs.
